Chardonnay

Chardonnay is the most popular white wine grape in the world. It is loved equally by wine drinkers and winemakers alike. Winemakers are enamored of this grape as it adapts to a wide range of treatments and styles and can grow admirably in almost any vineyard or climate. Wine lovers enjoy either the slightly sweet, high alcohol and oaky richness of New World Chardonnay or the steely, crisp acidity of Old World Chardonnay. The two most popular styles of Chardonnay wine produced today are the unoaked/carefully oaked style, and the buttery, heavily oaked, ripe fruit style.

Examples of Chardonnay that represent the former style:

  • Carmel Vineyard Chardonnay
  • Castel C Blanc
  • Dalton Unoaked Chardonnay
  • Lanzur Chardonnay

Examples of Chardonnay that represent the latter style:

  • Carmel Appellation Chardonnay
  • Hagafen Chardonnay
  • Herzog Special Reserve Russian River Valley Chardonnay
  • Yarden Chardonnay
