Bordeaux Blend (Red)

There are six red grapes that are legally allowed to be planted in the delimited region of Bordeaux in France: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Carmenere. All wines produces in Bordeaux are made from a blend of these grapes with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc being the most important. The exact grapes the winemaker chooses to use and in what quantity is entirely at his/her discretion. The long-standing success of wines made from this blend of grapes has encouraged winemakers throughout the world to reproduce the Bordeaux blend on foreign soils.
